Investing in your education
Established just over 100 years ago, Staffordshire University is far from old fashioned. We have just invested £40 million in the latest facilities for our main campus. We have new computing and gaming suites, new TV and music technology studios, new flexible teaching rooms and new social spaces. We are investing £4 million in new engineering facilities and have just spent £5.5 million to create two new Centres of Excellence in Healthcare Education to further improve our highly rated healthcare teaching. In 2012, we opened a £30 million Science Centre.
Improving your English
The better your English language skills, the more you will get from your studies. That’s why we offer ‘Pre-Sessional’ English courses to help you reach IELTS 6.0 – the level required for degree study. Designed to improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, our affordable English language courses are taught on campus by our own specialist tutors.
At the heart of Britain
Our main campus is in the vibrant, multicultural city of Stoke-on-Trent, in the county of Staffordshire. Right at the heart of Britain, Staffordshire is located in the Midlands – a thriving region with bustling cities, flourishing towns and wonderful countryside. Thanks to its central location, the University provides a good base for exploring Britain. Manchester and Birmingham are 40 minutes away by train. London takes 80 minutes by train. Bus services are reliable, frequent and low-cost. The road networks are excellent, and both Manchester and Birmingham International Airports are 45 minutes’ drive away.
A reputation for research
Staffordshire University isn’t just at the heart of the UK. It’s at the centre of much of the outstanding applied research that takes place in Britain – research that makes a difference to lives around the world. Carried out by leading academics and PhD students, research activities include economic, environmental, cultural, technological, scientific, health-based and social development. As a measure of the quality of our research, 78% was ranked as ‘world leading’ or of ‘international importance’ in the recent Research Excellence Framework (REF).
